Capitol Hill Classic 2012

So this was a crazy busy weekend!

We started out for DC on Friday afternoon, expecting on only have 10 players on Saturday instead of 11.  One of our girls was playing basketball this weekend.  About an hour into the drive, we learned that she would, in fact, be there Saturday.  We had a great first pool, going 3-0.

Then, I was able to walk around DC on an absolutely GORGEOUS day with a fellow coach and a player.  Here/'s a great shot I got of the Washington Monument.

On Sunday, we worked really hard, and ended up 1-2 on the #1 net.  We ended up in a 3 way tie for 2nd place, which placed us in 4th.  Not quite the showing we were hoping for, but still not bad.  At that point, I and a family that lives in the school district I teach in left for home.  We expected to end the tournament down 1 coach and 1 player, because I didn't have the day to take off & M had softball tryouts Monday afternoon.  The kicker was that the snow was accumulating quickly at home.  We're talking inches here!  We kept checking with everyone, and the roads were fine, despite getting several inches of snow, so we took off.

About an hour after leaving DC, we stopped for dinner, still monitoring our text messages.  We had already gotten our food, when M got a text message that our county was officially closed.  After some contemplation, we decided that we would turn back, and be with the team for the 3rd day of the tournament.

In the morning, D sent me a pic of his yard, all covered in snow.

We ended up losing our first match, to a team we lost to a few weeks ago.  We definitely showed improvement, and were tied at 11-11 in set 3, before losing 15-11.

When we got back, unfortunately most of the snow was gone.  Here's the same area D texted me, only after about 11 hours.

And here's D's dog, enjoying himself in the remnants.

So it was a great weekend; we expected to play down a player on Saturday & Monday, but were able to go full force all 3 days!
